This program will endeavor to answer the following questions concerning green building practices and affordable housing developments.

  • Vision: How do community groups and non-profit sponsors of affordable housing view green building projects and how do such groups encourage such development?
  • Decisions: What entices the affordable housing developer to build green? As a result of making such a decision, what does the developer see as a green practical baseline?
  • Practice: How does the affordable housing developer make the jump from their normal good construction practices to green? Where does affordable housing green construction fit on the spectrum between code minimum and custom built?
  • Given the affordable housing developer’s experience with LEED for Homes, how can the USGBC help to do it better, to encourage more affordable housing and community groups to participate in green housing projects?
