THIS EVENT IS FULL!

The School of the Future in Philadelphia attained a Gold rating under the USGBC’s LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) rating system. This high school is the result of a partnership between Microsoft Corporation® and the School District of Philadelphia. It was designed to be used as a teaching tool, where green features of the building itself can be used in lesson plans for students.

Sustainable features of the school include:
-daylighting techniques such as
-light shelves
-building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) windows
-green roof
-pervious paver blocks
-high reflectivity roof
-rainwater harvesting,
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood products
-recycled content
-materials from local providers
-thermal storage for air conditioning
-heat recovery systems.

Myers Elementary in Cheltenham School District was designed to achieve a silver rating under LEED-NC. This project is special in that it was a major renovation of a historic structure.

Green highlights of this school include:

-infiltration beds for stormwater management
-daylight sensors
-high reflectivity roof
-landscaping with drought-resistant/native plants
-highly-efficient gas-fired boilers, carpets, paints, and sealants containing low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
