Emerging Green Builders

Emerging Green Builders represent a coalition of students and young professionals intent on promoting the integration of future leaders into the green building movement. The mission of EGB is to create a network of emerging green building leaders and develop opportunities for involvement through the USGBC to further generate momentum for the green building industry. The EGB is comprised of a steering committee, students, and working professionals. EGB membership is $25 per year and affords you the benefits of reduced costs at programs and events, listserv information, discounts for LEED certification training and examinations, and more. Destination:
Rag Flats - a sustainable community in Philadelphia

The EGB conducted a tour to the Rag Flats, a sustainable community right in the heart of Philadelphia. Approximately 70 joined the tour, including young architects and students from various universities among others. Tim McDonald and Patrick McDonald, the architect/developer of the sustainable environment presented the various technologies incorporated in the buildings, the major being solar photo-voltaic panels and recycling of rainwater runoff. In all, the tour provided insights into energy efficient design concepts and future vision of the architect/ developer team. View photos.

Emerging Green Builders Showcase & Seminar was well attended

The EGB Design Showcase & Seminar attracted around 100 participants. The design showcase included 11 vendors who discussed their sustainable products / materials to the participants; products included waterless urinals to efficient lighting systems. Following the design showcase was the seminar by Dr. Charles Kibert. Dr. Kibert's presentation on Radical Sustainable Construction was informative with the room packed with attendees. Dr. Kibert signed his new book and spent time discussing with enthusiastic members. View photos.

Emerging Green Builders Conducts a Successful Tour

The Cusano Environmental Educational Center tour was attended by 33 enthusiastic participants. The Center was designed by Susan Maxman & Partners Architects. Muscoe Martin presented the various design concepts and techniques that were incorporated during the design stages of the Center. He also discussed the environment friendly building materials that were utilized during the construction. The construction video of the Center was shown to the participants at the end of the tour. In all, the tour was a great success and EGB is looking forward to conducting such tours in the future. View photos.

Who can be an emerging green builder?

An emerging green builder is anyone interested in becoming more involved in green building from any discipline of study or practice. Largely this group is comprised of students and young professionals but EGB also incorporates seasoned professionals who are new to the green building industry.
