Tuesday, February 11th, 2003 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm One of the fundamental challenges in the Delaware Valley is to balance the human uses of land and water resources so that we may live within the sustainable limits of the natural systems. Water related issues of stormwater, groundwater, wastewater, flood control and water supply are all interconnected and show us the need to manage our water resources on both a site specific and watershed basis. Join us for a discussion on several water management techniques including: porous paving parking lots with underground storage and infiltration beds, spray effluent, sand filters for denitrification, and subsurface flow wetland wastewater treatment systems. Tom Cahill, who has been practicing sustainable design for over 20 years, will lead the discussion, presenting examples of his work where these techniques have been implemented. Certain techniques can be used for projects seeking LEED certification. Special thanks to Carpenters Hall. |
