The Natural Lands Trust Headquarters
The Natural Lands Trust adapted and added to an existing farmhouse, winning a 2004 NESEA Green Building Award with the resulting LEED-registered project. The tour will showcase sustainable features including daylighting with fixture-dimming sensors, natural cross-ventilation with geothermal heat pumps, low-flow water fixtures and waterless urinals, and many locally-produced, salvaged, and recycled materials. Project architect David Ade (Susan Maxman & Partners) and Director of Building Stewardship Scott Wendle (NLT) will discuss lessons learned regarding site selection, materials research, stormwater treatment, and LEED certification.
Presentation Outline
After the tour, David Ade and Scott Wendle will facilitate an informal question-and-answer period. The following documents will be available for review and discussion:
• Design Drawings
• Architectural Specifications
• NESEA Submission Report
• Relevant RFPs
• Bid Breakdown
• As-Built Drawings
More details about the building available at http://www.nesea.org/.

W.S. Cumby Office Building
W.S. Cumby’s adaptive reuse of this existing building was the area’s first commercial renovation to utilize the LEED rating system for its design parameters. The project employs waterless urinals and porous asphalt stormwater management, enthalpy-type energy recovery and natural ventilation, construction waste management, and daylighting. The tour will include a group discussion led by green design consultant Scott Kelly (ReVision Architecture), project architect George Yu (George Yu Architects), and members of the W.S. Cumby construction management team. The team will present their LEED submission process and display documentation and submittals.
