Thursday, May 12, 2005 Continuing Ed. Credits: Bill Walsh is the National Coordinator of the Healthy Building Network, an advocacy organization that promotes the use of healthier building materials as a means to improving the quality of the built environment and preserving the global environment. HBN prioritizes green building strategies that are closely linked to the goals of the environmental health movement. It recently led the coalition that achieved a negotiated phase-out of arsenic treated (CCA) wood and currently prioritizes the replacement of PVC or vinyl building materials with safer alternatives. Prior to founding the Healthy Building Network, Walsh held various positions with the international environmental organization, Greenpeace, and staff attorney positions with the US Public Interest Research Group and the Institute for Public Representation of Georgetown University Law Center. Walsh holds a JD from Northeastern University School of Law and LLM in Public Interest Advocacy from Georgetown University. Bill will discuss the benefits and the challenges we face in trying to achieve environmental and public health priorities through building green.
