HOPE for Tomorrow:
Local Living Economies Among Mid-India’s Villagers

India, where 500 million people earn less than $1 per day, seems a world away from Philadelphia, yet many of the basic principles of sustainability and local living economies remain the same. Come see and hear how one Philadelphian's experience amid India's villages, the "real India" according to Gandhi, illustrate the connections that can sustain our one, shared world and people.

Speakers: Viv Hawkins with Archana Cynthia Gour

Viv Hawkins prays and works for a loving, just, and sustainable world in which each individual becomes whole by offering his or her greatest good to the community. Her 30 years of professional experience include systems development, strategic planning, management consulting, human resources, social work and executive administration. The organizations with which she has served range from the then largest for-profit U.S. employer to various sized not-for-profits including some dedicated to the Earth’s livelihood. As a Board Member of Friends Center, she has been intimately involved with their own green building project. She is presently on sabbatical having recently traveled in India.

Archana Cynthia Gour has spent seven years coordinating volunteers serving mid-India's villagers while providing consulting services to LifeForce, a British-formed non-governmental agency whose purpose is to protect the tiger by using a holistic approach to preserve the tiger's habitat and the people who work and live nearby. She is an educator of teachers in her home state of Madhya Pradesh, India where one of her foci is elementary students in villages.

This event will include networking time and a wine and cheese reception.
