About our Guest Speaker
Having worked in the building industry since 1973, Kevin Hydes has been a long-time advocate of green building. In 1986, he became a Vice President of Keen Engineering in Toronto, Canada and was promoted to President in 1999. During his first two years as president of the company, he expanded its impact on sustainable design of buildings by opening offices in Seattle and San Francisco.

Kevin Hydes’ appreciation for the importance of having buildings work with the environment led him to develop ‘Concepts,’ an environmental design division within Keen whose staff works with clients to find innovative ways to design environmentally sensitive buildings.

As the founding chair of USGBC Cascadia Chapter, Kevin is considered by many to be one of Canada’s foremost experts on sustainable design. He is a frequent speaker, sharing his ideas with the broader design community and has served as an advisor to numerous related committees.

Currently, Kevin serves as the following:
• Chair of US Green Building Council
• Faculty member of USGBC
• Founder and Director of Canada Green Building Council
• Faculty member for Canada Green Building Council
• Adjunct Professor, McGill University School of Architecture
• Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and
