On Monday, Feb. 6,  Jaime Lerner, who earned international accolades for his vision and leadership in city planning, will lead a public discussion entitled "The City Is Not the Problem, It's the Solution."  The event is free and open to the public and is the second of seven programs in the Urban Sustainability Forum, a series of public meetings intended to help make Philadelphia the greenest, most livable city in America.  Forum events are hosted by The Academy of Natural Sciences' Town Square program in the museum's auditorium, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Jaime Lerner Biography:
Twice elected governor of the state of Parana, in southern Brazil, and three times elected mayor of that state's capital, Curitiba, where he was born, Lerner led the urban revolution that made his home town an international reference in city planning for his visionary reforms mainly in the areas of transportation, the environment, social services and urban design, earning it United Nation's recognition as "the world's most sustainable city." Lerner also served as a consultant on urban affairs for the United Nations and, until last year, was president of the International Union of Architects, where his primary goal was to urge every nation and every culture in the world to propose solutions for the urban problems. Lerner has developed master plans for many cities in Brazil and was a consultant for such other international cities such as Caracas, Venezuela; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Shanghai, China; Havana, Cuba, and Seoul, South Korea.
