Camphill Village Kimberton Hills
Kimberton Hills is part of the international Camphill movement, which creates communities for children and adults with special needs. An elder care house is located in the Serena Stevens Merck House at Camphill Village. Green features of the building include: timber from certified forests; non VOC and/or low toxic paints; cellulose (recycled newspaper) insulation; natural flooring materials such as wool, ceramic tile, bamboo, & linoleum; rainwater harvesting; constructed wetlands for treatment of wastewater; solar light tubes; photovoltaic (PV) arrays; and sustainable landscape design. Situated beside the Serena Stevens Merck House is the Center for the Healing Arts, which will also be included in the tour. The conceptual architect Joan de Ris Allen and Director of Kimberton Hills Diedra Heitzman will share their green building story & lead the tour.
