Saturday October 20, 2007 Continuing Ed. Credits: The Delaware Valley Green Building Council invites you to join us for a Philadelphia Lehigh Valley Joint Partnership event Come tour the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)’s Washington, DC, headquarters, which is a LEED for Commercial Interiors Platinum office suite located in a LEED for New Construction Gold building. The space is full of natural lighting, toxin-free materials, and high-quality air, and it demonstrates how environmentally preferable green materials and highly efficient systems can transform an ordinary office space into an extraordinary place to work and learn. Other highlights include operable windows, high efficiency lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, many salvaged, reused and recycled materials, and multi-functional space. Then join us as we tour the solar-powered homes that have been designed by the twenty teams that have been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to compete in the 2007 Solar Decathlon. The teams, from colleges and universities around the globe, participate in an unparalleled solar competition to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. In Fall 2007, the teams transport their solar houses to the National Mall where they form a solar village. Other events in the village include solar & energy efficiency consumer workshops. We will tour the 20 homes and find out the winner of the 2007 competition. For more information visit the Solar Decathlon website at www.solardecathlon.org. Environmental movies will be shown on both the Departing & Return trips. Please bring your own food or plan on buying food in D.C. as the bus will not stop at any rest stops along the way.
