Thursday, December 6, 2007 In January, Friends Center will begin drilling Pennsylvania’s first deep-standing-column wells for geothermal exchange. Geothermal heating and cooling systems require zero on-site combustion of fossil fuels and produce zero carbon emissions, are highly efficient, and have the lowest life cycle costs. The introduction of deep-standing-column wells makes geoexchange feasible in the dense urban core where there is limited space for the well field. This is an opportunity for building professionals and policy makers to see the environmental and economic benefits of geothermal wells and learn about the application of deep-standing-column wells in urban settings. Rob Diemer, PE, of AKF- Engineers and former chair of Delaware Valley Green Building Council, will present on the technical and financial considerations in choosing this technology. The geothermal wells are one part of a comprehensive green renovation of Friends Center. You are also invited to stay for: |
