Description:

Bancroft Green is an urban infill project in which the majority of a city block is being developed into a series of townhomes around a central greenspace. With building lots less than 16’ wide, the design took a creative approach to daylighting by incorporating light wells and high windows to successfully bring light deep into the units. This cuts down the need for artificial lighting, while energy saving light fixtures add to the low electricity costs.

The final EnergyStar HERS rating for Bancroft Green projects stipulates that the homes should perform 45% more efficiently than a typical code compliant home of the same size.

To make the most of the most of the limited site area, Re:Vision designed green roofs to provide functional outdoor space for the residents. The green roof also helps to mitigate stormwater runoff, and reduces cooling loads. Both the use of geothermal heat pumps and modular construction demonstrate that these technologies can also be accomplished on even the narrowest of city streets.

Inside and outside the units, environmentally friendly fixtures/materials include water conserving dual flush toilets, reclaimed exterior brick, roof deck pavers made from recycled car tires, and durable aluminum clad windows and cement-based paneling.

Alternative transportation is encouraged with a PhillyCarShare parking area and attractive bike/storage bays that are accessible outside the units.
