Description:

REI, a leading distributor of recreational outdoor equipment chose Lauth to develop and construct a 625,000 square foot distribution center in Bedford, PA. The state-of- the-art center will serve the recreational, camping, hiking and climbing needs of the eastern United States market.

  • Use of bio-diesel fuels for all site-work equipment
  • Potable water usage for irrigation has been eliminated through the use of indigenous and drought
  • tolerant landscaping
  • Tiered bio-swale filtration systems
  • Landscaped walking/running paths through constructed wetlands which promote storm water management
  • Bicycle storage racks and shower facilities are provided to allow building occupants the option of riding bicycles to work
  • Highly reflective roof that reduces the “heat island effect” and decreases energy use and site lighting that does not project light into the nighttime sky
  • Water efficient plumbing fixtures (including waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets) – over 40% savings in water usage
  • Energy efficient air conditioning systems that limit ozone depleting refrigerants
  • Energy efficient roof and wall insulation systems
  • Substantial use of skylights and other daylighting strategies to minimize light fixture usage
  • Complete lighting control systems consisting of daylight and occupancy controls
  • 10% of the building is made of recycled material
  • 20% of the building is made from locally sourced products
  • Wood used is from managed forests with no wood from rare or endangered trees
  • Fully commissioned facility which ensures all systems are operating at maximum efficiency as designed
  • Materials used for construction, painting, and furnishings have low or no volatile organic compounds
  • Finally, the housekeeping will be “Green” and will comply with the “Greenseal” standards of LEED
