News for 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 LEED 2009 is a new version of the rating system that delivers against key environmental and human health impacts, and puts in place a transparent framework for weighting credits accordingly, based on the best available science. The second public comment period opens August 19 and will be open through 5 pm September 2. Significant changes are proposed: • Alignment and harmonization of prerequisites and credits across the various LEED 'products' (New Construction, Commercial Interiors, etc) • A predictable development cycle • Transparent environmental and human impact weighting of credits • Establishment of three credits for exemplary performance Public comment period closed on June 22, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 - Mayor Michael A. Nutter has appointed Dr. Mark Alan Hughes as Director of Sustainability for the City of Philadelphia. Mark joins the Nutter Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fox Leadership Program where he has been a Distinguished Senior Fellow since 1999. He will also serve as a Senior Advisor to the Mayor. Dr. Hughes has commented:” Local governments are on the front lines when it comes to dealing with climate change and environmental issues. Our goal, here in Philadelphia, is to move the sustainability agenda further and faster than in any city in the United States”.
